Day 3:

09/01/19

It is now our last day in Cairns. The plan today is to experience the Great Coral Reef and Fitzroy Islands.

The island was so beautiful and amazing to be on. We booked a glass bottom boat tour where we were able to see and be informed about the different coral and fish through the bottom of the boat. Fun Fact: 0% of the coral reef near the island has been damaged.

Next we gathered our snorkeling gear and headed to the Nudey Beach on the island. P.S. I promise the beach wasn't an actual nude beach. Brit and I literally had a whole photo shoot on the beach; from the water to the rocks, to the sand. We had our music turned up and just did us no matter if everyone was looking at us. But then again, we are used to that traveling, so it did not really phase me at this point.

After our mini photo shoot, we began to snorkel. It was nice to see the fish and coral reef more up close and personal. The fish were colorful, big, and small. I have come to the conclusion that just about every place I have snorkeled all looks the same. We then walked back to the central area of the island; returned the gear, ate, and began to prepare to get back on the ferry/ boat. The port was right next to the ferry so we ate and walked around there for a bit.

We returned to the hotel, and got ready to head back to Melbourne. This time I was NOT GOING TO PAY 60 DOLLARS, so I literally put on soooo many layers of clothes so that my bags would not be over 7kg. AND guess what!! They did not even check the weight of the bags!! I knew I just looked like a blueberry!! I now know what I would like like if I ever became husky, and it is not a pretty sight. As soon as the seat belt light turned off, I headed towards the bathroom and took off all of the layers.

Finding a ride home was more challenging than getting here. Our friend JP was supposed to pick us up, but he told us at the last minute that he was not able to. It is midnight on a weekday and the trams were not running anymore. Feeling anxious, I started to text everyone I knew that had a car or could possibly drive (which was limited). Luckily, Claire and Ellie came in clutch and was able to pick us up. THANK YOU CLAIRE AND ELLIE. We were picked up and headed straight to our rooms as soon as we hit campus. Cairns was definitely a plus, and I would love to go back.

Love,

Liv
