Day 2:
08/31/19
We got up really early in the morning to experience our first excursion in Cairns. Today we booked a trip to the Kuranda Rainforest to experience the aboriginal culture, and the different animals and trees in the rainforest. First we got picked up by the bus and was taken to the Rainforestation Nature Park. There we had an informative guide explaining the different animals, and even got to feed a few wallabies (smaller Kangaroos).
Next we were taught how to throw a boomerang by a few aboriginals. P.S. it is a lot harder than it looks, and it is rare that the boomerang will actually come back to you. We also learned more techniques of how the aboriginals hunt and gather their food. Then we watched how they dance in their culture, and what it means.
Lastly in this area, we rode an Army Duck to experience more of the rainforest. Fun/ Scary Fact: The Stinger Tree is a poisonous plant that has hair like glass spikes on the leaves that can leave you with the scar for your entire life.
Then we were taken to the Kuranda village where there are many shops; cultural, food, and souvenirs. With extra time on our hands, we decided to walk 48 minutes to the Barron waterfall. It was a beautiful waterfall but the walk there and back was tiring and long. Waiting 30 minutes for the bus to come, a few of the aboriginals started to talk to us. Everywhere Brit and I have gone, others feel so free and safe to talk to us. We had a very generic conversation and got to find out more about their culture. Finally the bus came, and we were headed to our hotel. I was so tired and exhausted, I literally slept the whole ride back.
We got to the hotel and changed quickly to our bathing suits to head to the beach. When we got there, we were honestly shocked. The ocean was not swimmable, and there was no one else just chilling and laid out on the sand. So we thought to ourself, maybe this beach isn't made for that. Since we had our bathing suits on, we decided to head towards the pool. The pool, and the jacuzzi was not even HOT. How is there a jacuzzi without the heat aspect of it? So that ended very quick for me.
We then headed back to the room, got dressed and got ready to head near the food court. We walked up and down the strip, ate good food, saw many side street entertainment and got some souvenirs. What a long day, but it was worth it.
Love,
